More Glimmers of Hope as Recovery Struggles On...

Two positive indicators today regarding the economy in general, and JOBS in particular.

The Intuit Small Business Employment Index, a new monthly survey of small business employment trends reported that, "Employment grew nearly 0.8 percent over the past eight months, which is 1.1 percent at an annual rate. This translates into nearly 40,000 new jobs for February 2010 and nearly 150,000 new jobs since June 2009."

Separately, payroll provider ADP issued their monthy survey on private employment, estimating that non farm private employment decreased 20,000 from January to February on a seasonally adjusted basis, which marks the smallest decline since employment began falling in February of 2009. The reported detailed that from January 2010 to February 2010:
  • Large Businesses (500+ employees): employment declined by 10,000
  • Medium Businesses (50-499 employees): employment rose by 8,000 (first increase since January of 2008)
  • Small Businesses (1-49 employees): employment declined by 18,000
