2009 Greening of Corporate America

"2009 Greening of Corporate America" is an excellent report just released by Siemens Industry Building Technologies and McGraw-Hill Construction. The report shows that corporate America has integrated standard sustainability practices, including recycling, green building, employee engagement, and partnering with non-profits into their cultures and everyday operations.

Highlights from the report include:

  • 75% of firms view sustainability as consistent with their profit mission and are engaging in activities. This is a doubling of this activity over the past three years.
  • Over three-quarters (76%) of corporate executives expect sustainability efforts to retain and attract customers and to drop costs of doing business.
  • Activity in green building has dramatically increased over time, with over a fifth (21%) expecting to green over 60% of their building portfolio in 2009, up from less than 10% in 2006.
This report details some of the "nuts and bolts" activities that Corporate America is employing as it moves to a full embrace of sustainable operating practices.
